ABOUT US

Self Powered Safety Products Limited, known as SP2, is a British company dedicated to the development and supply of self-illuminating markers and tactical devices for those whose activities are carried out at night. Our goal is to make night operation and navigation safer, easier and more efficient. Our radioluminescent devices do not require any charging or switching. Unlike photoluminescent and chemiluminescent devices, they will continue to glow for many years, even during prolonged periods of complete darkness. No external power supply is needed so there is no need to check and replace batteries or maintain a mains power supply. Nor is any maintenance required. Therefore, the cost of ownership for users is very competitive. Our range of products extends from simple Kit Markers through Secure Torches and Prismatic Compasses to Fire Safety Signs. Each product incorporates one or more self-luminous trigalight® light sources, enabling users to use the device quickly and easily in the dark.

$30000 a gram. Tritium is one of Earth's most expensive substances

Tritium is Expensive! Cost: $30,000 per gram.  Gaseous Tritium is also used in self-luminous fire safety signs which offer users the most advantageous life-cycle cost of any permanantly illuminated fire safety sign. Typically having a service life of 10+ years, self-luminous signs need no technical maintenance or spare parts during that time....

Glows for decades, harnesses radioactive power, but is still safe!

What is Tritium? First discovered by Mark Oliphant, Ernest Rutherford and Paul Harteck in 1934. It is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen mainly used in research activities, neutron generators and fusion reactors. Tritium is an isotope of Hydrogen with 2 Neutrons & 1 Proton, Deuterium has 1 neutron & 1 Proton and Hydrogen has 0 Neutron & 1 Proton. Our devic...

How do things glow in the dark?

Radioluminescence Luminescence is the emission of light by materials that are relatively cool. This is different from the light emitted from incandescent materials, such as burning charcoal, wood, paper etc., as the light in those cases results from heat. Since the emission of light is done by relatively cooler materials, luminescence is also called cold-body radiation. Gaseous Tritium's...
